Synopsis

EVERYONE HAS A STORY. Everyone has a reason why they are where they are, even the homeless-tramps-smackheads-prostitutes and the crack-whores.

And so does Jonathan.

Jonathan works in a low-skilled, minimum wage job, emptying bins and burying tramp shit. But what’s he doing there? Why is he mowing and blowing London’s parks and gardens? Humouring the general public and flirting with prostitutes?

Who is he hiding from?

What is he hiding from?

Exploring brilliance and mediocrity, selective confession and the rules of modern attraction, King of the Jungle is a spectacular, acerbic roller coaster ride of Broken Britain meets Britart, fuelled equally by hilarity and tragedy.

Reviews

"What KS Silkwood has achieved in the creation of Jonathan, is a warm, funny and deeply compelling narrator, who keeps us glued to every page.

"I haven't read anything quite like this before. A superb achievement." – Michael Stewart, author of
King Crow, and winner of The Guardian's Not the Booker Prize 2011
"[KS Silkwood] lays into the London arts scene with the kind of vicious contempt usually reserved for investment bankers … Hugely entertaining and very funny." – Inder Sidhu, Litro Magazine
"… [King of the Jungle is] stylistically reminiscent of Bukowski, or more recently the novels of Tony O’Neill, in its merciless depiction of self-delusion and destructively self-impulsive behaviour." – The Workshy Fop

About KS Silkwood

KS Silkwood was born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s, survived the 90s, and wrote a book or two in the noughties.

He has written a thematically linked trilogy, exploring the lives and the loves, the conflict and the compromise, the horror and the hilarity, of the modern day artistically (dis)inclined.

King of the Bored Frontier is his first novel published by Foe.

King of the Jungle (second edition) will follow, with the final novel, King of the Slags, due eventually.
